After installing, look for

Activity Monitor

That is Control. It installs under this name so it does not stand out in a screen share, and it has no taskbar icon: the overlay appears at the top of your screen.

Installation

Install Control

Everywhere your computer names the app, it says Activity Monitor: the file, the Applications folder, the permission prompts, and System Settings. That is deliberate. It keeps the overlay from standing out in a screen share.

Install on macOS

Apple Silicon or Intel

1Open the .dmg and drag Activity Monitor into Applications.
2Open it from Applications or Spotlight (search for “Activity Monitor”). There is no Dock icon: the overlay appears at the top of your screen. ⌘B hides and shows it.
3Click Continue in browser to sign in. When the browser asks to open Activity Monitor, allow it. You land back in the overlay.
4Allow Screen Recording when asked. The app shows you where the switch is; find Activity Monitor in the list.

Install on Windows

Windows 10 or 11

1Run the downloaded .exe installer.
2If SmartScreen appears, choose More info, then Run anyway.
3Finish setup. The app appears in the Start menu as Activity Monitor; the overlay sits at the top of your screen and Ctrl+B hides and shows it.
4Click Continue in browser to sign in, allow the browser to open Activity Monitor, and you land back in the overlay.

SmartScreen says “Unknown publisher” because the Windows build is not yet signed with a Microsoft-recognized certificate. That is a reputation check, not a malware detection. Every build is published from the same pipeline as the notarized Mac build.
