SpaceXAI’s mission is to create AI systems that can accurately understand the universe and aid humanity in its pursuit of knowledge. Our team is small, highly motivated, and focused on engineering excellence. This organization is for individuals who appreciate challenging themselves and thrive on curiosity. We operate with a flat organizational structure. All employees are expected to be hands-on and to contribute directly to the company’s mission. Leadership is given to those who show initiative and consistently deliver excellence. Work ethic and strong prioritization skills are important. All employees are expected to have strong communication skills. They should be able to concisely and accurately share knowledge with their teammates.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
We are hiring Journeyman Electricians to join SpaceXAI’s internal construction team supporting the rapid build-out of our data centers. This is a traveling role — you will mobilize with project teams to active construction sites, install and commission 480 V electrical systems, and move with the work as new facilities come online.
You will work on 480 V power distribution, busway, PDUs, UPS, main switchboards, grounding, lighting, and process power. This is a construction and commissioning role: pull, land, and turn over new 480 V equipment from issued-for-construction drawings. It is not a facilities-maintenance or operating-plant role.
This is an hourly position with overtime. Expect 80% or more travel on a rotation, with per diem.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Travel with internal construction and electrical teams to project sites to install, terminate, and test 480 V electrical systems, including switchboards, busway, PDUs, UPS, panelboards, generators, conduit, cable tray, feeders, and grounding.
- Install, terminate, torque, and dress 480 V distribution equipment and associated feeders.
- Install grounding, bonding, and equipment grounding electrode systems per drawings and the NEC.
- Support commissioning activities, including point-to-point checks, functional testing, megger testing, and first energization of 480 V systems.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, one-line diagrams, and specifications; produce as-builts and test records.
- Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA 70E, and SpaceXAI safety and quality standards, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) and arc-flash protocols.
- Collaborate with contractors, engineers, and operations teams to deliver projects on time with zero incidents.
- Participate in constructability reviews and provide field feedback to improve designs.
- Mobilize quickly between project locations as construction phases and priorities shift.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current state journeyman electrician license (Tennessee or Mississippi preferred, or equivalent state journeyman license with the ability to obtain TN or MS).
- 5+ years of industrial or data center electrical construction installing 480 V gear (switchboards, busway, PDUs, UPS, main switchboards).
- Demonstrated 480 V installation, termination, and torque of gear.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, one-lines, and schematics.
- Proficiency with electrical test equipment (multimeter, megger, torque wrench).
- Working knowledge of NFPA 70E and lockout/tagout (LOTO).
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders, and work in industrial environments with PPE.
- Hourly position with overtime; willingness to work nights, weekends, and extended shifts during construction and energization.
- Ability and willingness to travel 80% or more on a construction rotation; per diem and/or housing provided while on site.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Tennessee or Mississippi journeyman electrician license.
- Experience with data center or hyperscale 480 V power infrastructure (redundant UPS, generators, busway systems).
- Prior work on large-scale, multi-site construction projects that required frequent travel.
- Master electrician license.
- OSHA 30 or equivalent construction safety training in addition to NFPA 70E.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Schedule varies depending on site operational needs; frequent overtime and weekend support is required.
- Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions, climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs., and working on ladders/lifts at elevated heights.
- Ability to work in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, noise, heat, cold, and rain.
- Ability to rapidly change roles/responsibilities while working in a high-paced, challenging work environment.
- Stand: up to 6 hours per day.
- Sit: up to 3 hours per day.
- Push/Pull: up to 75 lbs. (unassisted) 1–2 hours per day.
- Overhead reach: up to 3 hours per day.
- Walk: up to 3 hours per day.
- Lift/Carry: up to 50 lbs. (unassisted) 1–2 hours per day.
