Research, Development, and Innovation (RD&I) Scientists provide laboratory model and technical expertise to support the production and business goals of Tippecanoe Laboratories. As a part of the process team, the RD&I Scientist is primarily responsible for providing technical expertise regarding process chemistry, GMP production, and scale up. The RD&I Scientist is responsible for the generation and interpretation of laboratory data, for creating a robust and accurate process description from the customer data package, and technical support to GMP manufacturing. The RD&I Scientist is responsible for planning, initiating, and maintaining a laboratory program to supporting the introduction of new processes and the resolution of production upsets. The RD&I Scientist is also responsible for clear and accurate communication of process and production details internally and externally.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate with the Project Managers to develop and track project schedules.
- Participate as part of the process team to develop the final process design as the process chemistry expert to ensure that the final design meets all expectations of the customer data package.
- Prepare critical documents (e.g., change control, process transfer reports) by deadline.
- Identify potential process improvements that could generate Evonik intellectual property.
- Design and execute appropriate experimentation to support the process improvement and secure the potential IP
- Provide documentation of laboratory activities
- Provide concise, accurate and complete reports of laboratory experimentation.
- Provide operations with accurate and detailed process descriptions to support the creation of manufacturing instructions that accurately reflect customer requirements.
- Maintain laboratory notebooks to a sufficient standard support potential IP claims
- Participate as the process chemistry expert as a member of the process hazard assessment team
REQUIREMENTS
- MS or Ph.D. in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
- Fundamental understanding of organic chemistry and demonstrated laboratory skills in synthetic organic chemistry and technical expertise.
- Ability to manage multiple projects efficiently and perform independent lab work.
- Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to work non-core hours for 24/7 manufacturing operations.
- Proficient in MS Office tools.
Preferred Requirements
- MS or Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry.
- Experience in small molecule process chemistry and in large-scale chemical manufacturing.
- Knowledge of statistical methods of data analysis.
- Experience with statistical design of experiments.
- Ability to supervise laboratory technicians and experience in GMP.
