We are searching for a qualified Quality Mechanical Inspector in the San Jose, CA Area. This is a part-time opportunity in which you will be supporting our client at one or more supplier sites in and around San Jose, 2 - 4 days/week. This critical role requires an experienced professional with a keen eye for detail and a deep understanding of quality assurance practices. Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct visual, physical, and dimensional inspections (both in-process and final) of parts, per project specifications and requirements.
- Conduct in process and final inspections of critical features, including witness inspections (e.g., CMM program run).
- Compile final inspection sign-off sheets and inspection packages.
- Verify that inspection equipment is capable of detecting defects and ensure inspection methodology aligns with drawing intent.
- Validate the execution of inspection plans as applicable.
- Document non-conformances using approved methods and submit non-conformance reports for customer disposition.
- Verify hardware cleanliness and absence of internal or external foreign object debris.
- Verify fasteners are properly installed; assure torque stripe is continuous and of correct color.
- Assure products are free of gaps, mismatches, fairing, and of acceptable contour and waviness.
- Ensure products are of good workmanship and meet specified standards (e.g., oil canning, riding conditions, loose fasteners, drill starts, scratches, dings, burrs, fastener edge distance).
- Review and validate First Article Inspection (FAI) documentation, including completeness, traceability, and compliance.
- Ensure the protection and preservation of inspected products for subsequent processing and shipment.
- Verify applicable shipping documentation for legibility and completeness, including part number, serial number, configuration change letter, and shipping destination.
Required Qualifications
- Strong ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings and industry/commodity standards.
- Proficient in GD&T and validating dimensions (tolerances ≥.005”) using hand tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers, height gauges).
- Experience with certificates of conformance and inspection documentation.
- Ability to adapt to new technology and software.
- Excellent visual acuity to detect defects in complex products.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working experience with GD&T
- 5 years of experience in the manufacturing industry, with at least 2 years as a Mechanical Inspector.
