Senior Tax Accountant

Location: Mexico City, Mexico

Department: Finance / Tax

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Tax Accountant to join our Finance team in Mexico City. This role is responsible for ensuring full compliance with Mexican federal, state, and local tax regulations, including the accurate determination, review, reporting, and reconciliation of taxes across multiple group entities.

The ideal candidate will bring deep technical knowledge of Mexican taxation, especially Income Tax (ISR), Value Added Tax (VAT/IVA), Special Tax on Production and Services (IEPS), and local taxes, along with experience handling tax audits, tax reconciliations, and statutory reporting requirements.

The main tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Prepare, review, and coordinate monthly and annual tax calculations.

  • Determine and review federal taxes, including:

  • Corporate Income Tax (ISR)

  • Value Added Tax (IVA)

  • Special Tax on Production and Services (IEPS)

  • Withholding taxes

  • Prepare tax working papers and support schedules for monthly and annual tax filings.

  • Monitor tax balances and reconcile tax accounts on a monthly basis.

  • Review tax impacts of business transactions and provide guidance to accounting and operational teams.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal tax obligations.

  • Coordinate and support external tax audits, SAT reviews, and tax authority requirements.  

Our ideal candidate is:

  • Experience with VAT refunds and VAT recovery processes. 

  • Experience with import/export tax implications. 

  • Experience reviewing customs-related tax documentation. 

  • Experience with transfer pricing documentation and related-party transactions. 

  • Experience working with Big Four firms (Deloitte, PwC, EY, KPMG)

  • Advanced analytical skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Continuous improvement mindset.

  • Capable of working on their own as well as collaboratively with others.

  • Engaged organized, and takes initiative.

  • Effective spoken and written communication skills.

  • Maintains accountability and a clear commitment to ownership.

Qualifications and requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Accounting, Finance or a related field; CPA – Certified Public Accountant qualification is beneficial.

  • 5 to 8 years of experience in tax compliance and tax accounting.

  • Solid knowledge of general accounting principles, invoicing, collections, NIFs, and SAT regulations.

  • Experience with accounting systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Contpaqi, Aspel).

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, etc.).

  • Advanced English
