Job Description
Overview
The Sign Fabricator performs skilled work in silk screen printing and sign fabrication for various sign needs throughout the City. Performs set up, adjusting, and operation of silk screen printer, squeeze roll applicator, heat applicator, graphics camera, and other equipment to fabricate required signage.
Essential Functions
1 Designs and produces special signs and traffic signs by using a computer-aided drafting program and other equipment; prepares film positives according to specifications.
2 Determines appropriate method of sign fabrication for job orders using either hand layout or silk screen production and determines the color of reflective material to ensure appropriate application for type of sign requested.
3 Facilitates and sets up large quantity production runs and makes any necessary adjustments or alignments when problems are diagnosed to ensure accuracy and quality in sign fabrication.
4 Programs, adjusts, and operates the Interstate Squeeze Roll Machine which rolls and bakes plastic and other material onto sign blanks by using hand tools and precision measuring devices to keep rollers properly aligned and adjusted to produce an accurate, high quality sign.
5 Determines when production run should be stopped by inspecting quality of sign to ensure uniform quality throughout the production process.
6 Makes dies to cut various size letters and numbers to meet sign specifications.
7 Conducts and performs tours of the sign shop for school groups and explains the sign-making process.
8 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
1 Knowledge of silk screen printing, photography, and graphics practices, materials, and techniques.
2 Knowledge of the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
3 Knowledge of complete operation techniques of an Interstate Roll Applicator Machine.
4 Ability to operate drill press, circular saw, and ordinary carpentry hand tools and wrenches.
5 Ability to train and instruct others in proper and safe work procedures.
6 Ability to plan sequence of operations.
7 Ability to stand, bend, and lift items weighing up to 40 pounds.
8 Communicating effectively verbally and in writing
9 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EXPERIENCE:
One (1) year of experience in fabrication, general construction, or carpentry.
LICENSE(S) and/or CERTIFICATION(S):
Valid Driver’s license and a good driving record.
Salary Range
