The Strategic Account Manager (SAM) is responsible for leading the direct sales process with assigned strategic grower accounts. This role builds strong, long-term relationships with large, complex customers and delivers differentiated crop protection solutions that drive productivity and business growth.
The SAM works closely with local sales, agronomy and support teams to align on customer needs, execute value propositions and deliver a consistent, high-quality customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
Account Strategy & Execution
- Own the development and execution of strategic account plans for assigned grower accounts
- Conduct business and needs analysis to identify growth opportunities within the customer portfolio
- Execute a disciplined call strategy in collaboration with local sales and technical teams
- Negotiate and coordinate delivery of tailored value propositions
Customer & Relationship Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for strategic growers within assigned geography
- Coordinate customer interactions to strengthen partnerships and build trust
- Increase penetration through prospecting and relationship-building that generates new revenue
- Represent customer needs internally and advocate for effective solutions
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Lead coordination of sales, agronomy and support resources to deliver on customer needs
- Ensure consistent, high-quality delivery of product knowledge, agronomic support and service
- Share insights and learning with broader commercial teams to improve execution
Market Insight & Feedback
- Provide feedback on product performance, competitive activity and program effectiveness
- Identify improvement opportunities or alternative tactics to support territory and area goals
- Stay current on crop protection technologies, agronomic practices and industry trends
Capability & Team Development
- Support learning and capability development across the sales team using blended approaches
- Coach and influence others to drive alignment, accountability and performance
- Continue professional development through ongoing learning and skill building
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Business or Marketing
- Equivalent education combined with relevant field sales experience will be considered
- 7–10 years of experience in agricultural sales or field agronomy
- Experience working with large or complex grower accounts within a local geography
Required Capabilities
- Strong understanding of crop protection products and crop production practices
- Proven ability to sell, negotiate and influence at a strategic account level
- Demonstrated experience leading and coordinating cross-functional teams
- Ability to coach and develop individuals toward defined objectives
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities within a budget
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced and changing business environment
- Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a driving record background check
