Job Description

As VP Chief Credit Officer, you will provide strategic leadership for credit risk management and lending governance across Ameriprise Bank. You will shape credit policy, underwriting standards, portfolio oversight, and regulatory engagement while partnering with senior leaders to drive sustainable growth. This role offers significant visibility and influence with executive leadership and the Board of Directors.

Responsibilities

  • Lead bank credit strategy, policy development, and underwriting governance for consumer, real estate, secured, and unsecured lending products.

  • Chair the Credit Risk Committee and provide leadership across risk and governance committees.

  • Review and approve complex credit transactions and oversee credit approval processes.

  • Monitor portfolio performance, concentration risk, loan quality, and loss mitigation activities.

  • Present credit risk insights and recommendations to executive leadership, regulators, and the Board of Directors.

  • Partner with compliance teams to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and company policies.

  • Leverage portfolio analytics and business intelligence to strengthen risk performance and decision making.

  • Manage budgets, resources, and continuous improvement initiatives within areas of responsibility.


Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of banking or financial services experience, including senior leadership experience in credit risk, lending, or controls functions

  • Demonstrated expertise in credit risk management, underwriting, portfolio management, and lending products, particularly secured real estate lending

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related field


Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA, CPA, or other advanced degree preferred

  • Strong analytical, credit structuring, and financial assessment skills, including knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) preferred

  • Excellent communication, presentation, influencing, and relationship-building capabilities

  • Ability to collaborate effectively across organizational levels and lead through complex business challenges

Our employees work in the office at least four (4) days per week, with flexibility to work from home one (1) day per week.

Base Pay Salary

The estimated base salary for this role is $210,500 - $289,500 / year. We have a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy. Your initial total compensation may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographical work location. In addition, most of our roles are eligible for variable pay in the form of bonus, commissions, and/or long-term incentives depending on the role.
