WSC Event Set-up & Custodial Assistant Supervisor - part-time/28 hrs per week
Come work for one of the most dynamic buildings on Brigham Young University Campus! With some 12,000 events happening annually, employees within the Wilkinson Student Center have many opportunities to care for our numerous patrons. Come help prepare the WSC for the diverse events, businesses, and offices the building has to offer!
Responsible for Shifts covering 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday. Will also be required to work some Sunday's during the day.
As a WSC Events & Custodial Assistant Supervisor you will be responsible for:
- Helping directly supervising both full-time and part-time employees.
- Working closely with both full-time and part-time employees providing opportunities to mentor, guide, and train.
- Knowing and being able to teach other employees in all aspects of the job such as cleaning methods, using approved chemicals, and equipment use and maintenance.
- Helping create, maintain and regularly present trainings to employees both individually and in larger groups.
- Ensuring that all assigned employees are compliant with Federal, State and University laws and guidelines.
- Helping implement department direction, policies and guidelines.
- Scheduling study rooms for students while Campus Scheduling is closed.
- Helping meet with event coordinators during their event to ensure the event is well cared for and following building policies
- Helping our patrons have a great experience in our wonderful building.
- Helping inspect the building to ensure it’s safe and well maintained.
- Helping clear the building during emergencies.
- Cleaning the building and its various businesses and offices.
- Ensuring Events are Setup properly, clean and on time.
- Learning and growing in your knowledge to be a better employee, particularly by attending conferences and workshops.
- Attending and conducting inter and intra-department staff meetings, particularly in the absence of the WSC Supervisor.
What qualifies you for this role:
Required
- 1 years Building Custodial Specialist or professional equivalent.
- Post-offer physical exam required.
- Required to be able to lift at least 25 lbs. and perform strenuous labor.
- Ability to supervise both student and full-time cleaning crews and interact well with a wide range of people under different situations and pressures.
- Basic Computer Skills, Microsoft Office suite.
- Interpersonal skills.
- Self-starter work with minimal supervision.
- Conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work, adapt to changes and stay calm under pressure.
Preferred
- 3 years Building Custodial with 1 year working as a supervisor.
- Basic building Maintenance.
- Advanced computer skills.
- Fire prevention and safety procedures. (i.e. room occupancy loads, hallway and exit blockage, code requirements for special events and set-ups and types of materials allowed in the buildings.)
- Ability to communicate with all different personalities.
- Knowledge of BYU’s mission and department policies.
- Experience supervising teams.
- Interviewing and performance evaluation skills.
- Knowledge of proper documentation techniques and etiquette.
- Full understanding of custodial duties which may include the following:
- Various methods of carpet and floor care including wood, terrazzo, tile, concrete, different carpet types and stain removal.
- Specific chemical use and hazards for proper cleaning applications
- Key authorization, electronic card access, use and responsibility.
- Alarms; emergency procedures and building evacuations.
- Rest rooms sanitation
- Church, academic, social and athletic set-up and removal of equipment and furniture.
- Trash removal, dusting, snow removal, glass cleaning and other routine custodial duties.

Pay Grade: 49
Typical Starting Pay: $22.50-$29.25
The actual compensation offered will take into consideration internal equity and may vary based on the candidate’s job-related experience, knowledge, skills, and other relevant factors. Candidates with very significant work-related experience may receive an offer higher than the posted typical range.
