Best Real-Time AI Interview Copilots in 2026

Ten live AI interview copilots compared on how they actually work: capture path, screen-share behavior, claim scoping, and pricing verified August 23, 2026.

A real-time AI interview copilot is a tool that listens to a live interview as it happens and produces answers or code while you are still in the call. That is a narrower category than "AI interview tool," which also covers resume builders, question banks, and mock-interview practice. This comparison covers only products that operate during the interview itself, and it evaluates them on the two things that determine whether they work in that moment: how the tool receives the interviewer's question, and how precisely the vendor documents what happens when you share your screen.

Those two criteria matter more than feature lists because they are the ones that fail. Every product in this category claims real-time answers. They differ enormously in whether the audio path works with the meeting client you were sent, and in whether the vendor's concealment claim survives contact with its own documentation. All pricing, versions, and quotes below were checked on August 23, 2026, and prices in this category change often.

How real-time copilots take in the interview

There are three capture paths in use, and they are not interchangeable.

System audio capture (desktop app). The application requests OS-level audio and screen-recording permission and reads the meeting audio directly, regardless of which meeting client is running. Cluely documents this explicitly: it "uses your system audio," and requires both microphone and "Screen & System Audio recording" permission on macOS and Windows (Cluely audio docs). LockedIn AI describes the same approach — "Record and analyze system audio" (LockedIn AI desktop page). This path is the most robust because it does not care whether the interview runs in Zoom's desktop client or a browser tab.

Browser tab-audio sharing (web app). The tool asks you to share a tab or screen back to it, with the "share audio" checkbox enabled, and listens to that stream. Sensei AI's own tutorial instructs users to join the meeting in a browser and "share the screen, ensuring to share the tab audio" (Sensei AI setup guide). Verve AI's documentation is blunter about the failure mode: "Without audio sharing enabled, the copilot cannot hear the interviewer" (Verve AI share-audio docs). OphyAI requires selecting "Entire Screen" in Chrome's prompt and enabling "Also share system audio" (OphyAI assistant page). This path constrains you to a browser-based meeting and a specific browser — OphyAI documents live features as Chrome or Edge on desktop only.

Microphone capture. The tool hears the interviewer through your speakers and microphone. Final Round AI documents only microphone permission — the app "processes audio during sessions for real-time transcription" and needs the mic "to hear and transcribe the interview audio" (Final Round AI FAQ). This is the most universal path and the least accurate one, since it inherits room noise and speaker echo.

Coding rounds add a second channel. Most products capture the problem as a screenshot and send it to a vision model rather than reading the page. Control, Verve AI, Parakeet AI, and OphyAI all work this way. Control uses hotkeys for it — Ctrl+H to capture, Ctrl+Shift+H for a region — and states that "screen captures are processed locally on your device." Interviews Chat is the exception among browser tools: its Chrome extension "can connect to a browser tab with a task, such as a whiteboard or a coding challenge," reading the tab rather than photographing it.

Where marketing and documentation disagree

This is the most useful thing to check before buying, and almost no roundup does it. Nine of the ten products below advertise some form of concealment during screen sharing. Only three scope that claim to an operating system, a mechanism, or a named failure case. The rest state it flatly.

The scoped ones are worth reading closely, because their caveats are also true of the unscoped ones.

Interview Coder documents the actual mechanism and its limits. Its engineering post names SetWindowDisplayAffinity(WDA_EXCLUDEFROMCAPTURE) on Windows 10 2004+, then concedes that on macOS "relying only on the legacy NSWindow.sharingType = .none flag is insufficient on macOS 15+, because ScreenCaptureKit ignores it," and that "if you share your entire screen/desktop, everything on that monitor... is broadcast" (Interview Coder detectability post, updated June 12, 2026). The homepage of the same site says "100% Invisible to Screen-Recording."

Verve AI publishes the clearest failure matrix in the category. Its docs state that Stealth Mode "requires the Desktop App. Not available in Browser or Mobile versions," works for window sharing and for entire-screen sharing from the Zoom and Teams desktop clients, and "may not work" for "entire screen sharing from browser-based meetings" (Verve AI stealth mode docs).

Cluely shows the gap inside one company. The homepage says Cluely "never shows up in shared screens, recordings, or external meeting tools." The documentation conditions that on the conferencing software respecting "the Windows and macOS default for privacy & infinite overlays," and notes the behavior is now opt-in (Cluely undetectability docs). Cluely also prices concealment separately, at $149.99/month against a $19.99/month base tier.

Control scopes its claim to a named client version — "invisible to Zoom (≤6.16) and any browser-based screen recording." That is a narrower statement than most of this category makes, and it is narrow on purpose: a claim tied to a version number can be checked and can expire, which is the point.

The unscoped claims are the ones to discount. Sensei AI states it is "fully undetectable and unnoticeable by interviewers across all types of interviews" with no OS, client, or version qualification. Parakeet AI lists five bare labels — "Screen Share Safe," "Dock Hidden," "Task Manager Invisible," "Tab Switch Silent," "Cursor Undetectable" — and documents no mechanism behind any of them. LockedIn AI advertises that the app "stays completely hidden during screen sharing" and "leaves no trace on your macOS Dock or Windows taskbar," again without versions or exceptions.

Two findings are worth stating plainly.

OphyAI's stealth copy is not its own. Its US homepage claims the copilot "runs quietly in the background during live interviews even while you are screen sharing" with "no pop ups no visible interface and nothing the interviewer can see." Those sentences appear verbatim on Final Round AI's homepage. OphyAI is a browser tool with no OS-level capture exclusion documented anywhere, and its own technical pages contradict the homepage, warning that "entire-screen sharing can expose anything visible on your screen" (OphyAI coding page). Treat the homepage language as borrowed marketing.

Interviews Chat is the only product that declines to make the claim. It says the copilot "doesn't join the meeting or notify anyone," and then recommends a workaround rather than immunity: use the assistant for phone screens "as a dependable fallback whenever screen sharing is required on video calls." That is a visible web UI, honestly described.

The ten copilots, compared

A few notes the table cannot hold. Interview Coder's $299/month is roughly ten times the category median and is not explained by any documented capability difference. Sensei AI's most recent product tutorial is dated December 2024, and the site has no changelog or documentation site — a maintenance signal worth weighing. Verve AI and Parakeet AI both ship frequently: Verve's changelog runs through August 11, 2026, and Parakeet published desktop build 3.9.31 on August 21, 2026. Parakeet's privacy policy, by contrast, was last updated August 30, 2024, and its data table marks call recordings as not collected — two years out of step with the current product.

What changed on the other side of the table in 2026

Choosing a copilot on stealth marketing alone ignores that assessment platforms shipped more detection this year than the copilot vendors shipped concealment.

HackerRank's own release notes document three waves. In January 2026 it added object detection in the webcam feed, which "automatically detects and flags suspicious objects in a candidate's webcam feed, including devices like mobile phones and tablets," plus deleted-code analysis that flags "suspicious activity patterns where candidates type and delete messages." In April 2026 it added screen-mirroring detection and expanded session replay to capture "the full browser screen instead of a single tab." In July 2026 it added gaze detection in limited availability and broadened screenshot analysis explicitly toward "detecting newer AI tools."

That last item is the one that matters for this category: a major assessment vendor now describes screenshot-based analysis aimed at overlay-style tools, and its Chakra interview environment now pauses recording when a candidate connects an additional monitor or exits full screen.

CodeSignal published fraud data on February 25, 2026, reporting that attempt rates on proctored assessments "more than doubled, rising from 16 percent in 2024 to 35 percent" in 2025, with 23% of flags attributed to "unusually linear typing patterns with minimal pauses." That figure is vendor self-reported and describes its own detection rate rather than independently measured prevalence, so read it as directional. Meanwhile, the operating-system layer that all concealment depends on did not change. Microsoft's documentation for SetWindowDisplayAffinity still dates WDA_EXCLUDEFROMCAPTURE to Windows 10 version 2004 and carries the caveat that "unlike a security feature or an implementation of Digital Rights Management (DRM), there is no guarantee that using SetWindowDisplayAffinity... will strictly protect windowed content" (Microsoft Learn). Vendors that promise more certainty than the platform vendor does are promising something the platform does not provide.

Limitations and what this comparison does not establish

This is a documentation review, not a detection test. Nothing here verifies any vendor's concealment claim, including Control's — verifying them would require testing each product against each meeting client and proctoring configuration, and the results would expire with the next release of either side. What the review does establish is which vendors describe conditions and which do not, and that distinction is a reasonable proxy for engineering honesty.

Three limits apply to the category as a whole. Behavioral signals — pauses before answers, eye movement, typing rhythm — sit outside every product's control, and CodeSignal and HackerRank are both now instrumenting them. Locked-down proctoring with process-level monitoring is a different threat model than a Zoom screen share, and several vendors, Final Round AI among them, say so. And employer policy is the governing constraint regardless of capability: Cisco's talent acquisition lead put the common position as, "if a candidate is not explicitly invited to use AI during the assessment process, then it should be considered off-limits" (Computerworld, August 26, 2025). Which one fits which situation

If the interview runs in a desktop meeting client and you want the audio path least likely to break, a desktop-native tool with system audio capture is the correct category — Control, Cluely, LockedIn AI, or Verve AI's desktop build. If the interview is browser-based and you are comfortable with a visible interface, Interviews Chat and OphyAI are cheaper and more honest about what they are. If your loop is entirely coding rounds, Interview Coder is the most narrowly targeted product, though at $299/month it is by a wide margin the most expensive way to buy that focus.

Weight documentation quality heavily. Verve AI and Interview Coder publish failure cases, Cluely's docs contradict its homepage in the reader's favor, and Interviews Chat declines to claim what it cannot do. Sensei AI, Parakeet AI, LockedIn AI, and OphyAI publish unscoped claims, and OphyAI's are copied from another vendor. A product that will not tell you when it fails has not told you anything about when it works.
