Only when the employer enables Screen Proctoring, which Codility documents as off by default. As of September 9, 2026, a Codility Screen test can capture your display in two forms: periodic screenshots under Proctoring Snapshots, or a continuous recording under the premium Video Proctoring feature. Either way you choose what to share, you must click Allow, and the capture needs Chrome or another Chromium browser. A test without Screen Proctoring records nothing from your display. The Codility App, used for Device Integrity, is documented as not recording the screen at all.
The two forms of screen capture
Codility's Screen Proctoring announcement describes it as "an additional media available for Proctoring Snapshots (the candidate's screen is being captured as snapshots at certain intervals) or for Video Proctoring (a full recording of a screen is made)."
Snapshots. The Proctoring Snapshots documentation says the feature will "take snapshots periodically and when a suspicious behavior occurs (for example, the candidate tried to copy the task description). Snapshots are kept for 30 days." Codility does not publish the interval.
Full recording. Video Proctoring's Test Session Recording "records the candidate's screen, webcam, and microphone throughout the entire test session," per the Proctoring documentation. The Video Proctoring page calls it "a premium feature" that is "disabled by default."
Both require the employer to have enabled them before sending your invitation. The documentation states proctoring "can only be enabled for tests that have not had candidates invited yet."
What you choose to share
Codility's candidate-experience section says screen recording "will allow for a continuous recording of the candidate's screen; they can choose between sharing a tab, a window, or entire screen." That is the standard browser share picker, so the surface you pick bounds what the recording contains. Two constraints apply. The Screen Proctoring page says candidates must "keep only 1 screen open" for the feature to trigger, and the supported browsers page states: "If your assessment requires you to share your screen as part of behavioral tracking, you will need to use one of the following browsers: Chrome ≥ 131, Chromium Edge ≥ 130, Opera ≥ 114." Firefox and Safari are supported for the test itself but not for capture.
Consent is a hard gate. The proctoring page states "candidates must select 'Allow' in order to proceed with the assessment if these features are enabled." For Video Proctoring, candidates "can choose to not agree to this requirement and return to the test at a later time," and once recording starts "they can see the recording indicator right next to the time remaining."
What a test without Screen Proctoring sees
Nothing from your display. A web page cannot capture a screen without the share prompt, so if no prompt appeared, no screenshot or recording exists.
What every Codility report does contain is a task timeline. The report guide explains its legend: a dark blue line for "Actively present in the IDE," a light blue line for "Out of focus," and a pink arrow for "Text pasted into the editor." That is focus and paste telemetry from the test tab, not an image of what you were looking at. How Codility treats those events is in whether Codility detects tab switching and copy-paste.
What the Codility App records
Device Integrity moves the test into a desktop application, and the natural assumption is that a native app records more. Codility documents the opposite. The Device Integrity page states: "The Codility App checks only for the presence of known cheating tools. It does not record the candidate's screen, monitor keystrokes, or collect personal data beyond what the standard Codility assessment already collects."
The app's purpose is detection of what a screen share would miss. The integrity features overview says the target is "hidden desktop applications that feed candidates answers in real time — and they're built to be invisible to screen sharing. Proctoring can't catch what it can't see."
Two cases where recording happens without a share prompt
VSCode tasks. For VSCode Native tasks, Codility's Session Replay documentation says the platform "automatically records their coding session in the background." The scope is bounded: "The recording captures screen-level visual activity within the VSCode IDE only. There is no keylogging, credential capture, or access to data outside the assessment environment." Candidates "are informed that their session activity may be recorded."
Interviews. In Codility Interview, formerly CodeLive, an interviewer can record, but only with consent. The Record Interviews page says interviewers "must be connected to the video conference and confirm that all participants have consented to the recording," and the recording is "accessible for 30 days."
What this means for candidates
If the intro page asks you to share a screen, decide what surface to share and clear it before you click Allow: close messaging, personal documents, and password managers. If it does not ask, Codility is not capturing your display, though the timeline still shows when the test tab lost focus.
