Is LeetCode Proctored? Contests, Interviews, and OAs

No. LeetCode does not proctor its contests, its interview product, or its mock assessments, and as of September 9, 2026 it documents no webcam, screen-share, tab-tracking, or lockdown feature anywhere on the platform. What LeetCode does document is a contest plagiarism checker with human review and no-warning bans. If you were told a company's online assessment is "on LeetCode" and it asked for camera or screen permissions, look at the address bar: the test is on another vendor's platform.

What "proctored" would mean and why LeetCode does not fit

Proctoring on assessment platforms means live monitoring of the person, not just the code: webcam snapshots, entire-screen capture, browser focus events, and sometimes a native application that locks the machine. HackerRank, CodeSignal, and Codility all publish documentation for those features.

LeetCode publishes none. Its privacy policy, last modified December 13, 2017, lists "Persistent Identifiers, including IP Address" and session cookies, then states that "no other personal information is collected." Its feature release notes, updated June 5, 2026, cover contests, the editor, the judge, and its built-in AI assistant, and never mention a camera or screen capture. The absence is consistent across every first-party page.

Contests: rules and detection, not proctoring

LeetCode contests are the only surface with integrity enforcement, and it works on submitted code rather than on you.

The contest rules, updated September 26, 2024, prohibit multiple accounts, "Multiple accounts submitting similar code for the same problem," leaking solutions during the contest, and outside help: "The use of code generation tools or any external assistance for solving problems is strictly prohibited."

Enforcement is described in LeetCode's May 2024 fairness announcement: "Our advanced cheating detection tool identifies similar codes, and we conduct manual reviews to confirm any dishonest behavior." A first violation zeroes the contest score and LeetCoins and bans contests and Discuss for one month; a second is "Permanent account deactivation without appeal." One record does exist. Code Replay, introduced in the May 2025 release notes, lets anyone replay a contestant's typing from the ranking page, and the May 2026 update added "editor activity status information." That is a keystroke history of the editor, visible after the contest, not a live proctor.

LeetCode Interview: a person, not a proctor

LeetCode Interview is the employer-facing product. Its launch post describes "Video and voice chat along with code collaboration" with "No downloads or IDE required." An interviewer creates a session, picks questions, and sends you a link. During the call they see and hear you and watch your code run.

That is live human observation, which is a different thing from automated proctoring. LeetCode documents no recording, no playback, and no integrity flags for Interview sessions. Whether the employer records the call with their own tooling is their decision and should be disclosed by them.

Mock Assessment: practice only

The Premium feature list describes mock assessments as a way to "practice mock interviews targeting a specific company." They are timed and scored for you. No employer receives them and nothing is monitored.

The "LeetCode OA" that is not on LeetCode

Search "LeetCode OA" and you will find candidates describing Amazon, Stripe, or TikTok assessments. Read closely and the test ran on HackerRank or CodeSignal; "LeetCode" describes the question style. Those platforms proctor, and their rules govern the session. The address in the invitation email settles it: leetcode.com means one of the three surfaces above, anything else means that vendor's documentation applies. What this means for candidates

On leetcode.com, nothing watches you. In a contest, the code you submit is compared with everyone else's and can be replayed keystroke by keystroke, and the rules prohibit any external assistance, AI included, with bans applied without warning. In a LeetCode Interview, a person is watching in real time. For any test that opens on another domain, read that platform's consent screen instead of assuming LeetCode's hands-off model applies.
