CodeSignal proctoring: what it records and who reviews it
CodeSignal integrity has a human layer and an automated layer, and they look at different evidence. This guide covers both, plus the General Coding Assessment, cooldown rules and what gets a result rejected.
As of September 2026
A proctored CodeSignal assessment records your camera, your microphone and your screen for the entire session, takes a photo of your face and of your government ID before the timer starts, and sends the recording to CodeSignal's own verification team rather than to the employer. Review takes one to three business days, the identification and proctoring data is deleted within fifteen days, and the employer receives only the score and the report. Not every CodeSignal test is proctored; the Assessments page says whether it is before you begin.
That is the human layer. The automated layer is the Suspicion Score, which runs on every test whether proctored or not. It synthesizes editor data, paste events, description copies, code similarity and related signals into a trust level per submission, and that does go to the requesting company. The two systems look at different evidence, which is why a clean recording and a flagged submission can coexist.
The rules are the ones on your screen. The setup flow ends with a surroundings check and an acknowledgements step: complete the evaluation in one session without leaving your workstation, be alone in the room, keep phones out of reach, use a single monitor. The General Coding Assessment permits syntax-only searches and states that AI is not allowed, including syntax search through an AI tool. The verification team checks that camera, microphone and screen were shared throughout, that the ID is valid, and that the displayed rules were observed. Rejections are for things like another person in the room, leaving the camera's view, or using another device. Proctoring has no effect on the score itself; it decides whether the score is certified.
What CodeSignal does not document is as useful as what it does: no eye tracking, no gaze analysis, no snapshot interval, no automatic tab-switch detection for assessments, no multiple-monitor detection beyond an optional interview pledge. The review model is a recording watched by people. CodeSignal Interview is configured separately with its own controls, and on eligible plans can use full proctoring too.
The posts below cover each question: whether your test is proctored, whether CodeSignal records your screen, uses your camera or records audio, whether it detects cheating or tab switching, what the GCA is and how to prepare, the cooldown and retake rules, what a proctored test looks like step by step, and what CodeSignal's AI-assisted assessment and AI interviewer record. Facts are current as of September 2026.
